LightningDB Free

Your graph. Ready to run.

Install LightningDB, then open it from your applications menu or run graphdb. Your database and Browser start automatically.

Version 0.2.0rc2 Release candidate

Install Free for Linux.

Choose your Ubuntu or Debian installer. Free includes the local graph engine and Browser, with up to 2 CPU threads. No account or activation required.

Tested on Ubuntu 22.04 and 24.04; requires glibc 2.35 or later. macOS and Windows builds will follow.

Install once. Open LightningDB.

LightningDB handles the database setup and saves your graph automatically.

1. Install the download

Open the downloaded .deb file with your Linux package installer and choose Install. It installs the application in the standard system location.

You do not need a compiler, an install script, or a graph file.

2. Open LightningDB

Choose LightningDB from your applications menu. If you prefer a terminal, run:

graphdb

The database starts in the background and opens its Browser. Create your first node or import your data there.

Your graph stays in your private user data directory and reopens next time, whichever folder you launch from.

Terminal installation and server controls

From the folder containing the download, install the package for your architecture with your normal package manager. For Intel / AMD:

sudo apt install ./lightningdb-free_0.2.0~rc2_amd64.deb
graphdb

For ARM64, use the arm64.deb download. On a headless server, use graphdb --no-browser and open the printed local URL. Standard controls are available when needed:

graphdb status
graphdb stop
graphdb restart
Install with pip instead

On supported Linux with Python 3.10 or later, install the Free engine and Python client in a virtual environment:

python3 -m venv .venv-lightningdb
. .venv-lightningdb/bin/activate
python -m pip install --no-index \
  --find-links https://lightninggraph.com/downloads/0.2.0rc2/ \
  'lightningdb[engine]==0.2.0rc2'
graphdb

pip selects the right Linux architecture. The same automatic database setup applies. Model weights are not included.

Portable archives and migration

For custom deployments, portable archives are available for Linux x86-64 and Linux ARM64. The included executable also sets up its database automatically.

The Browser includes an import panel for CSV and compatible Neo4j data. This release supports a defined Cypher subset, one label per node, and relationships without properties. Detailed migration instructions are included with the download. Test your workload before production use.
